Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Legal Department

The KTTT Legal Department’s mission is to defend the sovereignty of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas and safeguard the interests of the Tribe, its Officers and Legal Entities by providing timely, effective and efficient legal advice and support.

Department Functions

• Legal services to the KTTT Tribal Council, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas and all its legal entities and departments;
• Legal services, counsel and representation of the KTTT on legal matters which may include, but are not limited to, negotiations with federal, state, local and tribal governmental entities, issues relating to economic development, reserved treaty rights, Indian Child Welfare Policy, litigation and work with subordinate tribal entities including tribal chartered Corporations, Enterprises, Executive Departments and Executive Commissions, Committees and Boards;
• Legal counsel who shall develop laws, ordinances, resolutions, regulations or other forms or policy, procedures, orders and other like documents or amendments thereto for consideration by the Tribal Council; and
• Defense against such suits that may be filed against the Tribe, a Tribal Entity, a Tribal Official or employee (while in their official tribal capacity) and insure that Tribal Council receives proper notification, and shall defend same with appropriate defenses.
