Position: Tribal Court Clerk
Supervisor: Tribal Court Administrator

Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of child support and court clerical duties that contribute to efficient daily operations of Tribal Court; apply Tribal codes, procedures and rules in establishing paternity, obtaining child support orders and securing current and delinquent child support payments and medical coverage; and performs related work.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Apply Tribal Codes, create procedures and rules related to the establishment and enforcement of child support
- Act independently, interpreting department rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Receive and processes all filings in the Tribal Court.
- Schedule hearings, prepares docket or calendar of cases to be called and ensure parties receive full notice of hearings. At times this includes use of video conferencing services.
- Prepare case folders and post, file or route documents.
- Prepare summonses, notices, garnishments orders and other court documents as directed, and also reviews court orders drafted by other agencies.
- Record case dispositions, court orders and arrangement for payment of court fees.
- Collect court fees or fines and record amounts collected.
- Maintain a high level of customer service and organization.
- Exercise tact, diplomacy and flexibility with internal and external customers
- Maintain accurate and systematic records
- Respond to inquiries from the public, attorneys, and other court staff, accurately take messages and routing calls to the appropriate parties. Assist the Tribal Court staff to facilitate the communication between parties.
- Receive and distribute legal documents, maintain court records, and file paperwork as needed.
- Input file details into a computer system for tracking and retrieval.
- Maintain confidentiality by protecting sensitive information within files by following security protocols.
- Prepare and process cases according to established procedures
- Operates and uses an automated system to input and extract information and generate reports and documents
- Interviews individuals to obtain pertinent information related to child support cases
- Establishes all Court policies and procedures regarding child support, maintains and updates child support files
- Organizes and routes documents for child support cases
- Responds to general inquiries to internal and external customers
- Contacts and receives general, relevant information from other jurisdictions
- Processes, distributes and responds to incoming correspondence
- Assists with the location of parents for the purpose of establishing and enforcing child support
- Reviews documents of case participants to establish support obligations and contacts case participants, attorneys and employers
- Scans and indexes incoming correspondence
- Reviews and distributes reports and materials to internal and external customers
- Adhere to all court policies and procedures regarding security, confidentiality, and proper decorum.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED with equivalent work experience. One (1)- three (3) years related experience. Knowledge of basic office and administrative software such as MS office.
Preferred Qualifications: An associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
