Job Description

 Position:                            Foster Home Security Guard                    

Supervisor:                        Manager or Supervisor

Responsibilities

To provide supervision and direct care for troubled youth at the KTTT Foster Home as well as to ensure the safety and security of property, staff and visitors to assigned during work hours. 

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Coach and advise youth helping them to grow and develop in the areas of personal responsibility, social skills, community living skills, interpersonal communications, and behavior,
  • Effective use of the Behavior Modification System by providing redirection and coaching to youth,
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of all youth in accordance with all operational and contractual requirements,
  • Prevent and intervene in youth altercations and incidents, using the authorized state mandated training methods,
  • Serve as advisor and positive role model for youth in the program,
  • When working overnight shift:
    • Supervise youth during quiet and sleeping hours,
    • Conduct bed checks in accordance to established schedule,
    • Complete required shift documentation,
  • Actively participates in possible day trips and special activities that involve recreational sports, facility and equipment cleaning, ground maintenance and equipment relocation.
  • Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in accordance with National standards,
  • Arrive to work on time and attend work on a regular basis with minimal absences.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certifications.
  • Communicate necessary information timely to team members and upon shift change.
  • Communicate necessary information to appropriate team members and supervisors,
  • Communicate regularly with the Supervisor.
  • Complete an hour-by-hour log showing building and window checks nothing that all security and safety systems are functioning properly.
  • Complete incident, accident, and behavioral reports according to standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, courteous, positive, and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff and students.
  • Demonstrate good judgment when planning for children’s safety and health.
  • Develop and carry out intermittent building and window checks noting that all security and safety systems are functioning properly.
  • Document and review required notes in Shift Log,
  • Exhibit flexibility and a sense of humor.
  • Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Indian Child Welfare Foster Care Program and follow directives from superiors.
  • Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor.
  • If doors found to be left unlocked, document this information on daily log and report unlocked door to the supervisor on the next working day.
  • Maintain cooperative and productive relationships with other center staff.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid certificates.
  • Maintain the minimum standards for Child for child care established by Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Indian Child Welfare Program.
  • Notifies police, fire department or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention.
  • Notify management immediately of problems and/or incidents,
  • Notify, call Police, Fire Department or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate or prompt action such as acts of vandalism or unauthorized persons observed to be on property or in direct proximity.
  • Observe for and report any hazardous conditions of the building, grounds or equipment to supervisor.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities established by the state guidelines and provided by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Child Care Program.
  • Perform an hourly check of building both inside and out to assure that all areas are secure and functioning.
  • Present a good model to children of language use, both verbal and written.
  • Prevent and intervene in altercations and incidents involving troubled youth, using the authorized training methods.
  • Show insight into child and adult behavior.
  • Transport children and may drive for other work-related tasks.
  • Treat conversations and information with confidentiality regarding children, parents and other staff.
  • Understand Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
  • Understand growth and development of assigned age group.
  • Unlock doors at assigned times or to authorized persons and log activities.
  • Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.

Education/experience requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED) is preferred but not required.
