Position:                  Child and Adolescent Therapist / LPC

Supervisor:             Behavioral Health Director

Division:                   Health and Human Services Administration

Department:            Outpatient Behavioral Health Program

Responsibilities: 

The Kickapoo Outpatient Behavioral Health Program is seeking a dedicated Child and Adolescent Therapist to join our team.

The Child and Adolescent Therapist will provide cognitive behavioral therapy to tribal children and adolescents.  The role includes delivering social and behavioral skills training to children and their families while performing complex social services tasks, such as: 

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following: 

  • Case management: Coordinate services to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Parenting support: Provide guidance to parents and caregivers to enhance family dynamics.
  • Crisis intervention: Offer immediate support to clients in acute distress.
  • Diagnostic assessments: Conduct evaluations to determine client needs and appropriate treatment approaches
  • This position requires effective communication with a treatment team to support diagnosis and treatment. The therapist will also assist the Director with community education, consultation, and interagency collaboration.
  • Responsible for developing a unique treatment plan that reflects a course of therapeutic intervention that will address the needs identified in the assessment.
  • Assessment and counseling treatment for mental health and emotional/behavioral problems, for pediatric and adolescent patients and their families.
  • Effectively uses written, verbal, and non-verbal communication to communicate ideas, direction, and treatment-to-treatment team and clients.
  • Exercise a variety of individual and group counseling techniques that are evidence based in the treatment of readjustment counseling problems and demonstrate good clinical practice.
  • Conducts monthly outreach for high-risk patients who are stable, more often for clients undergoing a transition or a change in treatment.
  • These include but are not limited to diagnostic assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, collateral intervention, and crisis intervention.
  • This may include participation in administrative tasks such as medical record reviews, treatment outcomes projects, and program development projects in addition to direct-service-related documentation.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Supervision exercised: 

This position does not carry out supervisory responsivities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. 

Education/experience requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social, behavioral, or human services.

Licensure: One of the following licenses in good standing:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-A)
  • Master of Social Work (MSW)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years in a mental health setting.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Skills: Proficiency with computers and basic software applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mental health, social, behavioral, or human services, including diagnostic practices.
  • Three (3) years of experience working as an LPC.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) with demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak both languages.
