Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, performs general security work in the protection of individuals and property and the enforcement of all applicable policies, rules and regulations to prevent losses due to accidents and incidents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas and any program assigned to.
  • Patrol assigned areas checking for fires, vandalism, suspicious activity or persons or safety/fire hazards.
  • Report hazards, unusual, or suspicious circumstances to tribal police for correction or follow- up actions; maintain contact with tribal police and designated program supervisor as needed.
  • Check doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are closed and locked; note in written log any unlocked doors/windows; submit information to tribal police and designated program supervisor as needed.
  • Observe activity and traffic in assigned area to enforce rules/regulations; alert visitors of violations, stop incoming and outgoing vehicles, submit information to tribal police.
  • Cognizant that the possibility of physical confrontation increases the likelihood of injury.
  • Must be able to rotate shifts, work long hours and must be able to work on days off/holidays as required.
  • Assist any individual(s) on the premises needing directions.
  • Develop and carry out intermittent building and window checks noting that all security and safety systems are functioning properly.
  • Complete incident, accident, and behavioral reports according to standard operating procedures.
    • Complete required shift documentation as required by assigned program
  • Unlock buildings/doors as applicable with program guidelines
  • May assist tribal police with crowd control and surveillance at large public events.
  • May assist in detaining and supervising subjects while in custody for tribal police.
  • Provide safety of all individuals (tribal members, visitors, and staff) and for property of the Tribe.
  • Enforce all applicable federal, state and local laws, if any, as well as all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional competency by staying up to date on the changing trends of security procedures and practices.
  • Understand and demonstrate the proper guidelines for the use of force.
  • Comply with organization and department policies and procedures.
  • Must use issued gear and uniform provided by tribal police department.
  • Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from tribal police and/or program supervisor as applicable.

  • Must attend required trainings as assigned in areas such as for CPR, First Aid

  • Must have cultural awareness and sensitivity of Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED).

Preferred Qualifications: Previous work-related experience is preferred.

Native American preference is observed:

KTTT recognizes preference for KTTT tribal members and qualified Native American tribal members including preferential treatment in recruitment, hiring, promotions, layoffs and reductions in force so long as they meet minimum job qualifications.

Special certifications required:

Must have a valid Texas State Driver’s license and must be insurable.

Must adhere to Personnel Policies and Alcohol Policies.

Maintain current CPR and First Aid certificates.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.

The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.

The employee occasionally is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee frequently must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

The employee must communicate effectively in person or using telecommunications equipment.

The employee must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate law enforcement tools such as firearms, Tasers, radios, motor vehicles and computers.

The employee must have a normal range of hearing and be able to talk.

The employee must successfully pass both a preliminary fitness test and an annual fitness assessment.
