Responsibilities:

The Ranch Hand is responsible for the preservation of the ranch for future generations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

• Perform any combination of the following duties on a beef cattle ranch to attend to beef cattle: Herds, castrates and brands cattle.
• Inspect and repair fences, windmills, watering troughs and feed containers.
• Feed cattle supplemental food during shortages of natural forage.
• Train saddle horses.
• Ride beside horse being trained to prevent bucking or rider from being injured.
• Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by Ranch Director/Ranch Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR THE POSITION:

• Knowledge of ranch machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance.
• Must be able to communicate in English and/or Spanish.
• Ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Knowledge of livestock care and handling procedures, including health checks and feeding requirements.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining ranch machinery and tools.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other ranch staff and communicate effectively regarding animal health and ranch operations.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED)

Preferred Qualifications: Past or present ranch/farming experience.
