Responsibilities:
The Parks & Recreation Program Assistant supports the daily operations of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas (KTTT) Sports Complex, Aquatic Center, Gymnasium, and Tribal recreation programs. This position assists in the delivery of athletic leagues, youth programs, aquatics activities, and community recreation services while ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for Tribal members and guests.
This role also supports the Tribal Summer Youth Program by assisting with supervision of children, facilitating activities, and promoting a safe and positive recreational environment grounded in community values and cultural respect.
The Recreation Attendant works closely with the Parks & Recreation Coordinator and the Athlete & League Development Coordinator to ensure programs and facilities operate efficiently and safely.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
KTTT Sports Complex & Program Support:
- Assist with daily operations of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Sports Complex.
- Support athletic leagues, practices, tournaments, and special events.
- Assist with event set-up and breakdown, including equipment and facility preparation.
- Monitor facilities to ensure safety and compliance with department policies.
- Promote positive sportsmanship and respectful conduct among participants and spectators.
- Report maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards promptly.
Concession Operations:
- Assist with concession stand operations including food preparation and sales.
- Handle cash transactions in accordance with Tribal financial procedures.
- Maintain sanitation and food safety standards.
- Monitor and restock concession inventory as needed.
Aquatic Center Support:
- Assist with opening and closing pool procedures.
- Monitor pool area to ensure compliance with safety rules.
- Observe and help supervise children and families in aquatic settings.
- Assist with pool deck cleanliness and safe handling of equipment.
- Be familiar with basic rescue procedures and respond appropriately in emergencies if trained.
- Report injuries or safety concerns immediately.
Gymnasium & Open Recreation:
- Assist in supervising open gym sessions and recreational use.
- Ensure participants sign in according to department procedures.
- Monitor behavior to prevent unsafe conduct or misuse of equipment.
- Enforce facility rules in a respectful and professional manner.
Tribal Summer Youth Program:
- Assist with supervision of children participating in the Tribal Summer Program.
- Support recreational, athletic, and enrichment activities.
- Help maintain attendance records as required.
- Promote teamwork, respect, and positive behavior.
- Serve as a positive role model for Tribal youth.
- Report incidents, injuries, or behavioral concerns to supervisors promptly.
Customer Service & Community Engagement:
- Provide assistance and information to Tribal members and authorized guests.
- Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment.
- Follow all Tribal policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities for the position:
- Knowledge of general recreation program support and facility operations.
- Familiarity with youth supervision and child safety practices.
- Basic understanding of aquatic safety procedures.
- Ability to monitor activities and enforce rules calmly and consistently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in routine and emergency situations.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs, and community values.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended seasonal hours as required.
Supervision exercised:
This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Education/experience requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to swim.
- Ability to work effectively with children and community members.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in recreation programs, athletics, youth programs, or aquatics.
- Experience in customer service or facility operations.
Native American preference is observed:
KTTT recognizes preference for KTTT tribal members and qualified Native American tribal members including preferential treatment in recruitment, hiring, promotions, layoffs and reductions in force so long as they meet minimum job qualifications.
Special certification required:
CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within the first 90 days).
