Job Description 

Position:                              Physical Education (P.E.) Teacher Aide             

Supervisor:                         Senior Director of Academic Services or Designee

Responsibilities

The Physical Education Teacher Aide will be responsible for teaching P.E. to all Tribal Students enrolled in KTEA services. KTTT Tribal Education Division is committed to providing a quality physical education program that will complement our academic program. All teachers are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, performing instructional activities, assisting students to reinforce material already presented through special efforts and repetitions, implementing our curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with our families, and other duties as assigned. 

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist the teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks as related to physical education.
  • Implement and deliver an age appropriate, broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students
  • Ensure that all students have the necessary parental permissions, physical examinations, and other documentation related to program- as per division requirements and as instructed by supervisor
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
  • Assist in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Report any concerns in conduct, health, discipline or other area to the appropriate management staff
  • Facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential
  • Identify potential community outreach events related to subject matter, and relay to Tribal Education Administration in order to encourage student participation in programming related to PE and health
  • Promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle for all Tribal Students
  • Organize PE / Sport workshops for staff and parents when appropriate
  • Undertake a designated program of teaching across all age groups as required by supervisor
  • Plan and deliver scopes of work and lessons that meet the requirements of the KTTT Tribal Education Division
  • Be a role model for students, inspiring them to be actively interested in PE
  • Prioritize and manage time effectively, ensuring continued professional development in line with the role
  • Follow the policies and procedures to ensure the effective/efficient classroom support where appropriate
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the KTTT Tribal Education Division procedures, and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behavior, standards of work and homework
  • Work with colleagues to develop activities that link with the units of inquiry where possible
  • Update professional knowledge and expertise as appropriate to keep up to date with developments in teaching practice and methodology, in general, and in the curriculum area of PE
  • Ensure a high quality-learning environment within the PE Area Assessment, Feedback, and Tracking
  • Follow department monitoring and tracking systems relating to students’ attainment, progress, and achievement.
  • Complete the relevant documentation to assist in the tracking of all Tribal Students
  • Assess, record, and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as required.
  • Help maintain individual records for each student.
  • Participate in the staff development program by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development as instructed by supervisor.
  • Collaborate with all KTTT Programs to conduct age-appropriate activities
  • Comply with the KTTT Tribal Education Administration policy and procedures in order to ensure the welfare of children and young persons
  • Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students.
  • Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Encourage safety habits in work and organized game activities
  • Assist in the maintenance and storage of equipment.
  • Set up equipment for class.
  • Help maintain order in the classroom; monitors students to keep them on tasks.
  • Perform a variety of office assistance tasks such as photocopying, filing, answering the telephone, etc. as required.
  • Book sports facilities (like swimming pools, fields, tennis courts) and carry out the necessary administration as instructed by supervisor
  • Attend meetings scheduled in the school calendar as instructed by supervisor
  • Arrange for coverage when there is any leave of absence
  • Be in the classroom before children arrive each afternoon, unless designated by supervisor to another duty
  • Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor. 

Education/experience requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree or 45 college hours leading to a degree in education or related field. Some experience working with students from early childhood age and older.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, P.E., or related field is preferred. Strong experience working with a range of students from early childhood to high school.
