Job Description 

Position:                              Language Translator/Tutor (LCA)

Responsibilities:

The Language Translator/Tutor (LCA) works closely with the Tribal Student Services staff, including but not limited to district and school site Directors, LPC/Social Workers and other KTTT educational staff, students and parents to ensure that all Kickapoo Speaking stakeholders are provided with translation support services. The translator position will act as a resource in the areas of teacher support, parent engagement, and support to students and Kickapoo speaking families. In addition, the Language Translator/Tutor (LCA) assists Education staff with curriculum and instructional translation. 

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Support the KTTT Tribal Education Department and Kickapoo Language and Learning team goals, objectives, operational procedure, and serve as an interpreter and translator between the home office and campus staff.
  • Work with Educational Administrator and Tribal Student Services/Education Supervisors to translate documents and forms when necessary.
  • Work with General Education or student support staff to identify areas of academic need for students and appropriate targeted instruction in Kickapoo Language.
  • Assist Kickapoo Language Developers, Instructors and Specialists in planning and delivering instructional training modules and staff development workshops to all Kickapoo Speakers at the campus and within the district.
  • Assist in the development of scheduled for afterschool program culturally driven courses such as sewing.
  • Provide instruction to students and members of the community during the afterschool program hours for culturally driven courses such as sewing, etc.
  • Attend professional development to remain current with federal and state special education guidelines, for tribal students
  • Identification of students needing further translation support services and request support
  • When assigned or required attend meetings to translate for Kickapoo Speaking parents in order to ensure meetings are translated according to state and federal guidelines; and aligned to KTTT education program guidelines
  • Work with Kickapoo Language Team to accommodate, modify or create materials as necessary.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous lessons, according to students’ needs and the provided curriculum, where applicable.
  • When requested or assigned chaperone local and out-of-state field lessons, including but not limited to student field trips, or advocacy needs
  • Conduct morning, lunch, and afternoon duties during assigned times.
  • Provide KTTT parents and communities with resources, support, parent education and referrals.
  • Work closely with case management, advocates, and counselors to meet the needs of all Kickapoo Speaking students
  • Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Education/experience requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Fluent Kickapoo Speaking, fluent and Literate in English

Computer Skills. 

Preferred Qualifications: GED/Some College
