Position: Kickapoo Language Specialist
Supervisor: Program Director

Responsibilities
Kickapoo Language Specialist is responsible for the adhering to KTTT Language, Literacy and Learning Supports and Instructional development tools and programs.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
The KTTT Language Specialist
- Is responsible for the adhering to KTTT Language, Literacy and Learning Supports and instructional development tools and programs
- Basic Kickapoo Vocabulary – picture dictionaries (for all ESL- Kickapoo/Spanish/other)
- Kickapoo Literacy Circle- PD telling a children’s story in Kickapoo- Translating / Dyer/other into Kickapoo
- Track the Language Literacy and Learning Progress Measures
- Track Language Literacy and Educational Lesson Plans
- Coach and mentor Kickapoo teachers to design activities lessons and learning experiences that support dual language instruction
- Provide Kickapoo Language support during religious holidays.
- Serve as Kickapoo translator for case managers and district parent communication
- Support transliteration of forms and documents into Kickapoo
- Attend trainings as deemed appropriate and necessary by supervisor/manager
The Language Specialist will provide support to
- Kickapoo language instructors
- Kickapoo Curriculum and Instructional Support team
- Kickapoo Tribal Community Specialist
- All educational leadership needing assistance with translation
- Tribal Educational Administration and assigned programs in developing a Kickapoo Tribal Language, Literacy and Learning Policy and Tribal Education Procedures and Data Quality Manual
The Language Specialist will work with The Kickapoo Language Development Team to:
- Promote positive communications regarding the Kickapoo Traditional Tribal Education Program
- Obtain the permission from the Kickapoo Traditional Tribal Education Program Tribal elders to implement programs that will benefit Kickapoo Language Learning and participation in Traditional Tribal Way and Education
- To support The Tribal Education Team and Tribal Education Administration in the implementation of policies and procedures that are necessary to preserve the Kickapoo Traditional Language and Ceremonies
- To support The Tribal Education Team and Tribal Education Administration with the development of a tribally led Kickapoo language development team and Tribal School Calendar (Kickapoo Language Committee and Calendar)
- To support The Tribal Education Team and Tribal Education Administration the collection of Tribal Student Data
- Collaborate and to develop Tribal Communication plan alongside the Tribal Education Team and Tribal Education Administration that will engage the Tribal Community- including but not limited to Tribal members, elders, parents, students, and other Tribal Education stakeholders
Education/experience requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Kickapoo Tribal Member – Kickapoo Speaking
Over six (6) or more years teaching Kickapoo Language to students. All candidates for this position must be able to complete required training, licensing, and professional development requirements as requested by Tribal Education Administration.
Required to attend the mandatory training within one (1) year of start date. Experience working with various age groups. Teaching Experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree/bachelor’s degree preferred. Trilingual in Kickapoo, English & Spanish (preferred).
