JOB SUMMARY: The Tribal Administrator oversees the day to day operations of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas (KTTT). The Tribal Administrator reports directly to the KTTT Tribal Council. Under guidance of the KTTT Tribal Council the Administrator is responsible for the effective and efficient administration of overall tribal operations, serves as the principal operating executive for implementation of the Tribal policies and legislative directives including the direct oversight of the KTTT management employees. Directs and oversees the development of all KTTT programs, plans, and budgets. The Administrator will provide supervisory duties and leadership to the KTTT management staff in the performance of their assignments as well as issue directives designed to accomplish the goals and objectives as set by Council. Provides initiative in identifying the need for action by the KTTT Tribal Council to develop or revise policies and procedures. The Administrator is accountable for achieving Tribal Council goals and objectives of resolutions and laws, and for compliance with policy directions.
Education & Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Public Relations, or Tribal Management, or directly related field and have four (4) years of Tribal Government experience and five (5) years in senior or executive leadership experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Public Relations, or Tribal Management, or directly related field and have eight (8) years Tribal Government experience and ten (10) years in senior or executive leadership experience may be substituted for Master’s Degree.
- Experience creating, implementing, and interpreting polices at a high level.
- Experience in the following: Change leadership, People development, and Delivering results.
- Must be able to demonstrate fluency in English; Spanish preferred.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record and be insurable.
- 21 years or older.
- Diverse experience in the administration of major Indian Tribal Programs.
- Experience working with poor and/or migrant workers, indigenous peoples, or Native American Tribes.
- Experience with Native American communities.
Skilled in maintaining a high level of discipline and morale throughout the Tribe.
Skilled in planning, organizing and directing the work of employees performing varied operations connected with the Tribal activities and departments.
Skilled in maintaining effective working relationships with State, Federal, and other local officials, elected officials, subordinate staff, and Tribal residents.
Skilled in understanding and interpreting complex laws, rules, regulations, policies and guidelines, including Tribal employment laws.
Skilled in planning, organizing, and directing, through subordinate staff, the efficient, effective delivery of department program’s services and functions.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, and communicate effectively with others.
Ability to communicate, provide, and follow written and verbal direction.
High levels of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage and maintain security of confidential data and information.
Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment.
Ability to work flexible hours and days as necessary to meet the needs and demands of the Tribe.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to maintain favorable public relations. Enjoys working with people. Prior experience working with Native Americans. Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life. Must have a proven history and be able to maintain confidentiality.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written materials. Ability to effectively present information to individuals and to groups. Effective oral and written communication skills. Trilingual (English, Spanish, and Kickapoo) is preferred.
Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in many units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and explain graphs and charts.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect date, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Analytical, time management, and organizational skill needed. Must have the capacity to integrate diverse objectives with a high level of attention to detail.
Computer Skills: Ability to function in PC environment using MS Office programs efficiently with minimal errors. Exhibit a willingness and ability to learn computer operations on a variety of different systems. Ability to use personal computer, printer, copy machine, and telephone.
Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit, stand for extended periods, talk, and hear. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and move quickly from one position to another. May frequently be required to lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision with, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Work conditions for this position are usually indoors in a climate controlled, well-lit office. This position may require the employee to occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is generally moderate.
Job Knowledge: Understanding of the professional practices and principles of administration, organizational development, operations management, public relations, human resource administration, and training. Significant knowledge of Tribal government structure; sound judgment and leadership skills; Tribal employment and Human Resources principles and practices, organizational management practices and policies; effective training techniques; customer service, public relations and conflict resolution techniques; and executive-level administration. Knowledge of the principles and methods of organization, management, and supervision of subordinate staff.
Successfully pass pre-employment Drug Screen and adhere to a Random Drug Screen policy
