Position: Child Development Coordinator
Supervisor: Special Programs Director or designee
Division: Tribal Education Administration
Under general direction, plans, develops, and provides training on a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate bilingual/bicultural training education services program that is responsive to the unique education situations and challenges of preschool children and their families. Monitors, supports the program, exceeds Head Start Performance Standards, and provides positive guidance with excellent resources to all teaching staff.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Provide assistance to other teachers in the implementation and adaptation of curricula to the group and individual needs of children in Head Start classrooms.
- Support and help teaching staff to strengthen and improve effective teaching practices.
- Provide technical assistance and monitoring of the curriculum.
- Support teacher(s) implementation of the Child Development, Early Intervention, Disabilities, nutrition, and other Program Work Plans.
- Provide training, technical assistance, monitors screenings and children assessments.
- Support individualization of the Child Development Program within the local program.
- Coordinate with Daycare Director to support the development and delivery of appropriate, necessary trainings throughout the program. e. onsite training/monitoring, pre-service, in-service, cluster training, orientation for child development staff, parents and classroom volunteers.
- Provide local training, guidance and monitoring of curriculum implementation.
- Monitor individualization of the curriculum.
- Support the utilization of field trips to facilitate children’s understanding of the connection between classroom experience and their local community.
- Support, guide and monitor the development and implementation of daily lesson plans.
- Support, guide and monitor the teachers in record keeping and documentation practices.
- Monitor children(s) goals and accomplishments.
- Support the availability of developmentally appropriate supplies, materials, and resources for classroom staff to utilize in their curriculum implementation.
- Provide guidance and resources for lessons and activities reflective of individual needs in the classroom.
- Work closely with all center program staff to facilitate the implementation of appropriate transition activities for children and families.
- Conduct at least two (2) teacher observations per room, per month and as frequent as necessary to support a high level of curriculum implementation.
- Support the teaching staff in developing positive and nurturing relationships between teaching staff, parents, and children in the classroom.
- Provide guidance and support to include parental participation in curriculum planning.
- Provide training and technical assistance to support the parent’s understanding of their child’s development and participation.
- Provide guidance and support in the completion of at least two home visits by the teaching staff.
- Support community partnership agreement developments and serves as an advocate for children and families.
- Support the collaboration with local education agencies and early intervention agencies to provide quality service deliveries to children and families, especially in cases of children with disabilities.
- Participate in developing IEP’s and provides technical assistance to support parent’s understanding of the IEP process and implementation.
- Participate in program assessments, monitoring and community assessments to support program quality.
- Support and participates in providing training for parents in all aspects of child development.
- Encourage and support parents to participate in classroom activities and field trips.
- Support parent/teacher conferences and communication.
- Support prenatal input in lesson planning.
- Provide support and input in the development and administration of parent meetings.
- Work collaboratively with program staff to implement smooth seamless transitions for children and families into, out of, and within the program.
- Support and participate with staff in the collaboration and communication with local agencies in support of children and families.
- Provide support and guidance in the implementation of the program work plans.
- Provide input from local staff and parents through the Child Development Coordinator to Parent Policy Council and Parent Committee.
- Provide input representative of local recommendations in the development and selection of curricula choices.
- Support parent(s) understanding of the Daycare Performance Standards and Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Policies and Procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the program core team to support program governance within the program.
- Coordinate with center staff to facilitate smooth activities for children, families, and staff.
- Coordinate with program core team to facilitate planning for the program.
- Ensure planning activities in the classrooms meet individual needs of children.
- Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of child screenings, assessments, and individualization with classroom teachers.
- Support the planning and implementation of parent(s) to include teacher conferences throughout the year for the continued support of transitions, services to children, children with disabilities, and general program operations.
- Responsible for the dissemination of information to and from the teaching staff.
- Communicate with teaching staff to support the child development program within the program.
- Communicate with parents on issues of child development, training, assessments, etc.
- Monitor and provides guidance for lesson plans.
- Monitor children(s) records for eligibility, enrollment, and attendance requirements.
- Maintain and report attendance to support CACFP requirements.
- Monitor children(s) progress information through review of classroom files and communication with individual teachers.
- Provide continuous classroom monitoring to support the implementation of the curriculum, individualization, and transitions of children.
- Participate in all self-assessments.
- Monitor staff(s) records to support compliance with staff requirements and development.
- Work collaboratively with program staff to develop functional programs for staff development.
- Provide guidance to teaching staff and classroom volunteers in the area of staff requirements and staff development possibilities available through the agency and through local educational institutes.
- Monitor the purchasing and distribution of materials in accordance to Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Property and Procurement procedures.
- Monitor the local budget to facilitate the purchase of local educational requirements.
- Include pedestrian and transportation safety activities in the lesson plans as necessary to support children(s) safety.
- Monitor arrival and departure of children for bust safety practices and to ensure that children are being picked up only by authorized persons.
- Monitor and support staff/child ratios.
- Monitor evacuation drills at different times of the day, including on site and on the bus.
- Facilitate and monitor transportation needs, especially for children with disabilities.
- Provide and monitor confidentiality of records and information.
- Monitor the meal service and provides technical assistance.
- Monitor guidance, redirection practices by teaching staff in support of a healthy, nurturing, and supportive learning environment for all children.
- Report any known and/or suspected child abuse cases to the proper authorities.
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in in early childhood education or with equivalent coursework in early childhood education (ECE) and with early education teaching experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous work related experience is preferred.
