Responsibilities: 

Perform a variety of tasks requiring a limited knowledge of carpentry, such as applying siding and weatherboard to building exteriors or assembling and erecting prefabricated buildings.

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following: 

• An individual must be able to successfully perform each the essential functions of this position listed below with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Measure and mark locations of studs, leaders, and receptacle openings, using tape measure, template, and marker.
• Cut sidings and moldings, sections of weatherboard, openings in sheetrock, and lumber, using hand tools and power tools.
• Align and fasten materials together, using hand tools and power tolls, to form building or bracing.
• Lay out and aligns materials on worktable or assembly jig according to specified instruction.
• Install prefabricated windows and doors, insulation, wall, ceiling and floor panels or siding, using adhesives, hoists, hand tools, and power tools.
• Trim overlapping edges of wood, weatherboard, using portable or power saw, and hand tools.
• Remove surface defects, using knife, scraper, wet sponge, electric iron, and sanding tools.
• Repair or replace defective locks, hinges, cranks, and pieces of wood, using glue, and tools, and power tools.
• Realign windows and screens to fit casements and oils moving parts.
• Measure and cut materials to determine conformances to specification, using tape measure.
• Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.

Knowledge, skills and abilities for the position: 

• Knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades, practice, procedures, technique, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety.
• Proficient at the following task: stain – grade trim work, hang doors, drill and set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, read blueprints, utilize appropriate math skills.
• Able to read blueprints.
• Mathematics: Ability to perform simple arithmetic for measuring and other calculations.
• Language & Communication: Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, and communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage and maintain security of confidential data and information.
• Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment.
• Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life.

Supervision exercised: 

This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Education/experience requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED) and 3 years of experience in home construction; work experience will be considered in lieu of education.

 Preferred Qualifications: Carpentry diploma, certificate or associate degree and previous work-related experience is preferred.

Special certification required: 

• Must have a valid Texas State Driver’s license and must be insurable.

• The following physical activities are necessary to perform one or more essential functions of this position.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
• The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
• The employee occasionally is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• The employee occasionally must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
• The employee must communicate effectively in person or using telecommunications equipment.
• The employee must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools and machinery. 

Work environment:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works in outside weather conditions.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dirt, dust, smoke, toxic materials, air contaminants, noise, humidity, temperature extremes and working at heights.
• The work environment can occasionally be stressful.
