Position: Caregiver

Responsibilities
In general, a Childcare Caregiver will maintain safe and stimulating surroundings for young children under the KTTT Tribal Education Child Care Program.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Arrange activities for children and provide them with a chance to explore, learn, and grow in a positive environment.
- Assist in other projects as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Supervisor, or Program Director.
- Assist in the formation of a classroom setting conducive to learning and suitable to the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
- Assist volunteers assigned to the same classroom.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
- Be responsible for housekeeping tasks to maintain the order of the child care.
- Communicate regularly with parents through daily greetings, verbal and written comments on children’s daily charts (infant and toddler rooms), and annual parent conferences.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, courteous, positive, and responsible, and serve as a role model for all district staff and students.
- Demonstrate good judgment when planning for children’s safety and health.
- Demonstrate insight into child and adult behavior.
- Ensure each child receives individual attention.
- Exhibit flexibility and a sense of humor.
- Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Child Care Program and follow directives from superiors.
- Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor.
- Follow policies and procedures for the operation of the child care center.
- Help children with toileting or diapering needs. May involve lifting children up to 40lbs.
- Maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for the children at all times.
- Maintain cooperative and productive relationships with other center staff.
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certificate.
- Maintain the Minimum Standards for Child-Care Centers established by the Texas Department of Family and Protective service (DFPS), and the standards set by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Child Care Program.
- Observe and report any hazardous conditions of the building, grounds or equipment to supervisor.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities established by the state guidelines and provided by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Child Care Program.
- Present a good role model to children with language use, both verbal and written.
- Provide positive guidance to help children develop the ability to be self-disciplined.
- Respond to and interact with children in their play environments and at the child’s eye level.
- Responsible for documenting incidents or health concerns with the Program Manager.
- Share the responsibility for the arrangement and maintenance of the room and equipment.
- Supervise the children at all times. Observe and monitor groups of children indoors and outdoors year round, assuring their health and safety.
- Treat conversations and information with confidentiality regarding children, parents and other staff.
- Under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, assist with curriculum and daily lesson plans that are suitable for the child’s age, stage and personal interest.
- Understand Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
- Understand growth and development of assigned age group.
- Use portfolio system as the primary means of gathering and organizing developmental data on child’s growth.
- Utilize time well and is organized.
- Work as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and high standard of quality in all classrooms in the center.
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.
Education/experience requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Certified as a Child Development Associate (CDA) or High School Diploma or graduate equivalent diploma (CDA) with 2 years of experience in Childcare or related field.
