Job Description 

Position:                              Bus Driver/Custodian                     

Supervisor:                         Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor

Division:                              Tribal Academic and Human Services Administration

Department:                        Tribal Education Operations

Responsibilities

Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of assigned vehicles, facilities, and for the health and safety of all passengers transported in the school bus.  Also performs general building custodial duties at the facility assigned. and meets Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas, federal, state and local requirements. Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations when transporting students.
  • Is punctual in establishing bus schedules.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective care of school property.
  • Maintains regular route schedule.
  • Maintains discipline on the bus.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly bus.
  • Reports any mechanical discrepancies immediately.
  • Keeps fire extinguisher and first-aid properly filled and close at hand.
  • Perform required operational and safety inspections of school bus and all relative equipment.
  • Maintains safety standards in conformance with state, federal, and insurance regulations and implements a program of preventive safety.
  • Maintains safe driving record.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Education/experience requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED)

Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record and be insurable.

Must have commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a school bus and passenger endorsement.

Must have state certification requirements to operate a school bus.

Must meet all Federal Drug and Alcohol testing requirements.

 

Preferred Qualifications; Three (3) years safe driving experience.

 

Disqualifying Criteria

Regulations implementing the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act require an individual to be denied employment if he or she has been convicted of any felony, or any two or more misdemeanor offenses, under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution, crimes against persons, or offenses committed against children.
