Responsibilities:
The Athlete & League Development Coordinator supports the planning, development, and delivery of athletic programs and leagues that prioritize tribal member athletic development and community participation. This position focuses on identifying athletic ability, coordinating trainers and coaches, and organizing structured athletic leagues and development opportunities. The Coordinator works closely with Parks and Recreation staff, trainers, community partners, and Tribal members to provide high-quality, culturally respectful athletic programs that promote skill development, wellness, and community engagement.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Prioritize the identification, support, and development of tribal member athletes across youth and adult programs.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing athlete development programs, training sessions, clinics, camps, and skill-building opportunities.
- Identify, recruit, and coordinate qualified trainers, coaches, and instructors to support athlete growth and development.
- Assist with onboarding trainers and coaches, including coordination of certifications, background checks, and departmental requirements.
- Help organize, develop, and support athletic leagues for the community, including league structure, divisions, scheduling, and seasonal planning.
- Support daily operations of athletic programs and leagues at parks, recreation facilities, and the KTTT Sports Complex.
- Serve as a point of contact for tribal members, athletes, parents, coaches, trainers, and community partners.
- Assist with program registrations, track participation and athlete progress, and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
- Promote athletic programs and leagues through outreach, social media, flyers, and community engagement activities.
- Support budget monitoring by tracking program expenses, trainer costs, and league revenues.
- Ensure all athletic programs, training sessions, and leagues meet safety, accessibility, and risk management standards.
- Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising part-time or seasonal staff, trainers, and volunteers as assigned.
- Prepare reports, schedules, and documentation related to athlete development outcomes, league participation, and program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with schools, clubs, Tribal departments, and community organizations to expand athletic opportunities.
- Support departmental goals and initiatives aligned with Tribal priorities and community wellness.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities for the position:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of athlete development, sports programming, and league organization.
- Understanding of youth and adult athletic development models and skill progression.
- Knowledge of sports facility operations, scheduling, and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with recruiting, coordinating, and supporting trainers, coaches, and instructors.
- Understanding of basic budget tracking, program revenues, and expense monitoring.
- Knowledge of risk management, emergency procedures, and public safety standards in athletic environments.
- Skills in leadership, teamwork, and collaboration with staff, trainers, and community partners.
- Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including customer service and report preparation.
- Ability to assess community athletic needs and develop programs and leagues to meet those needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Tribal leadership, administration, community organizations, and outside agencies.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, values, and community priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and the ability to build trust with athletes and families.
- Proficiency with technology for scheduling, registration, reporting, and communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to support programs and leagues.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or crisis situations.
Supervision exercised:
This position does carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Education/experience requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Education, Public Administration, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in recreation programming, community event coordination, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience working with Tribal governments, communities, or culturally diverse populations.
Special certification required:
- Must attend trainings for CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers Certification and others required as assigned by Tribal Education Administration.
- Must have a valid Texas State Driver’s license with a good driving record and must be insurable.
- Must have access to reliable transportation to commute to and from work.
- Must adhere to Personnel Policies and Alcohol Policies.
- Have a current record of tuberculosis examination, showing the employee is free of contagious TB, if required by the Texas Department of State Health Services
